A popular area with holidaymakers, the Western Loire has clean sandy beaches backed by aromatic pine forests, superb seafood and picturesque canals.
Explore the delightful towns, the splendid chateaux and the cathedrals and castles. Sample the Muscadet wine of the Nantaise, the Rillettes de Porc in Maine and the lovely Reinettes apples that are grown here.
Le Mans - famous for its 24 hour motor race but with a lot more to offer, Le Mans is the birthplace of King Henry II and has an impressive cathedral with superb architecture.

Angers - standing on the banks of the river Maine, Angers is a vibrant and busy city. There are many historical tapestries on display here and a wealth of old buildings and cathedrals.
Saumur - the best horsemen in France were trained here at the cavalry school in 1763 to form le Cadre Noir (the Black Squadron). There is a castle which houses the arts museum and also a Musee de Cheval displaying the history of the horse.
Nantes - used to be the capital of Brittany but is now the capital of the non-Breton Loire-Atlantique. There is a splendid castle - the Chateau des Ducs - which houses a museum of Breton culture and a maritime museum.
St-Nazaire - a port and industrial town that produces ships for the French Navy, it has a separate residential area. Nearby you will see the incredible that has been built.
