P’tite Boulangerie

Open-plan living area with a woodburning stove for the winter months, the original bread oven in the corner, a double sofa bed, a television, a DVD player and a radio/CD player. There are also two rocking chairs, an up-lighter lamp and a free standing fan.

In the dining area is a table and four chairs.

The kitchen is well-equipped with gas oven, cooker hood, microwave, fridge, separate freezer, kettle, toaster and filter coffee maker.

On the first floor is a large double bedroom with a curtained wardrobe area, a chest of drawers and two bedside tables. There is a free standing fan for hotter weather and a convector heater for the cooler months.
There is space for a folding bed in this room, suitable for a child.

Modern shower room with heated towel rail.

A hairdryer is provided for guests’ use.

Outside is a grassy courtyard with wooden garden table and chairs.

Les Ecuries -  two independent, semi-detached gîtes

Both gites are on the ground floor and are similar in design.

Open plan kitchen / living / dining room.

The kitchen area has fitted cupboards, gas oven, microwave, fridge with ice box, an electric kettle and a toaster.

There are table and chairs for four, together with folding seats for flexibility.

In the living area is a ‘clic-clac’ double sofa bed, French terrestrial TV, a radio/CD player and a hairdryer.

Double bedroom.

Both gîtes have electric heating for cold weather and a fan for hot weather.

Baby equipment comprising a travel cot with linen and duvet or blankets, high chair, baby bath, potty and baby monitor are available on request.

Smoking is not allowed inside the gîtes but you may smoke outside.

Pets are welcome, bearing in mind that there is a resident dog as well as several cats, so visiting pets must be well behaved and trustworthy.
 

Outside

There is a laundry room adjacent to the gîtes with a washing machine, ironing board and iron, mop, bucket and broom.

The hangar opposite Les Ecuries and beside La P'tite Boulangerie has a full-sized folding ping-pong table, an electronic dart board and various board games and puzzles for guests' enjoyment. 

Playing cards are available and books can be borrowed on request from the owners' extensive library.

The site is not enclosed apart from the swimming-pool area and the courtyard.

Between the gites there is a grassed area, fenced either end, with wooden benches and parasols for your al fresco meals.

The Swimming Pool

The secluded, sun-drenched swimming pool is a 10m x 5m chlorine treated pool. It is half shallow and half deep. The pool is surrounded by a fence and hedges and has a security gate fitted as well as an alarm if requested. The pool has an electric security cover which will take the weight of a small child.

Within the fence there is a large grassed area where you can play badminton or just bask in the sun on the loungers provided. There are tables, chairs and sun umbrellas on the patio area as well as a charcoal barbecue. There is a 3m x 3m folding gazebo for extra shade when required.

There are underwater lights in the pool and outside lights as well.

The pool and patio area are shared by all guests staying at La Charronnière.

There is an area outside the fence, near the pool, under an old pear tree, where you might like to play boules on the grass, or a mini version of croquet.

We offer covered parking for motorbikes and drying facilities.

Local area and activities

La Charronnière is just 2 miles from the local town of Chaunay which has two bakers, a post office, pharmacy, small supermarket, newsagents, florists, a bar and a hotel with restaurant.

Local gastronomic specialities are Charentais melons, duck and goat’s cheese and to drink, Bordeaux wines and Pineau des Charentes. Pineau is a fortified wine either drunk as an aperitif very cold, or as a digestif after a meal.

Canoeing and kayaking on local rivers and at Riberac.

Fishing centre at Base de Loisirs d’Ayron, Fleix (10 minutes).

Golf courses - Club de Golf Chateau de Forges at Méningoute and Club de Golf Manoir de Beauvoir at Mignaloux near Poitiers.

Indoor swimming pool and sailing lake at Nautilis, Angoulême (45 minutes).

Poitiers old town centre restaurants and shopping.

Futuroscope theme park of the moving image at Poitiers.

Microlight flying - Aerodrome at Couhé (10 minutes).

Cognac town and distilleries – the Remy Martin tour is recommended.

La Rochelle old port, walled town, botanical gardens and wonderful seafood restaurants.

Paris by train on the TGV  in under two hours from Ruffec or Poitiers.

Beaches at La Rochelle and Chatelaillon-Plage (under 2 hours).
