Follow the Route du Chabichou and discover the goats cheese specialities of the region.
Futuroscope, the science and technology park at Poitiers is a one drive away.
The centre for saving the Poitou Donkey, specific to Poitou-Charentes is nearby at Dampierre sur Boutonne.
Visit the 'La Vallée des Singes' (monkey valley) at Romagne - all the species run free in shady parkland.
La Rochelle, the old port with its narrow shop-lined streets is a must and nearby Fouras is a delightful small seaside town with several family friendly beaches.
l'île de Ré and l'île d'Oléron are two beautiful islands - visit the small towns and museums or explore by bicycle.
The Marais Poitevin - an area where water has replaced roads. Hire punts and explore.
The Festival season starts from about July onwards and includes:- The International Film Festival and the Francofolies (rock) at La Rochelle, the Musical Academy festival at Saintes, jazz at Parthenay
plus a children's games festival and a Blues festival at Cognac.
