La Longère Rose holiday cottages with swimming pool in the Poitou-Charentes region of western France.

Our three superb, fully equipped, 4-star cottages are set in over two acres of grounds in the quiet rural hamlet of Paizay-le-Tort. We are away from it all, but not far from anywhere.

We have something here for everyone including a delightful swimming pool and sun terrace, a large games hangar and many peaceful hideaways.

La Marinette

Lounge area. The air-conditioned open-plan lounge area has a large settee, a matching corner unit and a double sofa bed. Also provided are satellite TV, a DVD player and wi-fi / ethernet access to the Internet.

There is a selection of paperbacks, along with a useful selection of tourist brochures and details of local attractions, markets and restaurants. Board games are also available to borrow.

Dining area. Furnished in a contemporary French style, the separate dining area comfortably seats up to ten people. Plenty of crockery, glasses and cutlery are provided, including items for younger guests, highchairs and booster seats.

Kitchen. The well-equipped kitchen includes a 5-burner gas hob, an eye-level electric oven with a spit-roaster, an eye-level microwave/combination oven, a large fridge-freezer and a range of small appliances, along with saucepans, oven dishes and matching glasses, cutlery and crockery. There is also a dishwasher and a washing machine. Kitchen linen is provided, plus an initial supply of cleaning materials and dishwasher tablets.

Ground-floor bedroom. The ground-floor bedroom accommodates up to three people. Comfortably furnished with a double bed and a single bed, a large wardrobe and bedside tables, there is also room for a cot.
Summer nights are kept cool with a ceiling fan, while blankets and heaters are provided for when the weather turns chilly.

Ground-floor bathroom. There is an over-bath shower, a WC, a well-lit vanity unit, a heated towel rail and a built-in hairdryer with shaver point. All the taps have thermostatic controls to set the water temperature.

Galleried landing. A stair gate is available for the top of the staircase.

First-floor double bedroom. The first-floor double bedroom is comfortably furnished with a double bed, a full-size wardrobe and bedside tables with lights. There is also room for a cot in this bedroom. In addition, there is a ceiling fan for summer nights, plus blankets and heaters for the cooler months.

First-floor triple bedroom. The first-floor triple bedroom is furnished with three full-size single beds, a large wardrobe and bedside tables with lights. This bedroom also has room for a cot or a bed for a small child. There is a ceiling fan, with blankets and heaters provided for cooler months. The velux roof window has a blackout screen.

First-floor shower room. The spacious first-floor shower room has a 90cm-quadrant shower cubicle, a WC, a well-lit vanity unit, a heated towel rail and a built-in hairdryer with shaver point. All the taps have thermostatic controls to set the water temperature.

Bed linen is supplied and changed every week. Towels and bath mats are supplied for the bathroom and shower room and changed every week.

Outside

Equipped with a large table, chairs, a parasol and a gas-fired barbecue, La Marinette's private patio is ideal for French-style summer dining.

The bookcase contains a selection of paperbacks and tourist brochures along with details of local attractions, markets and restaurants. Board games are also available to borrow. All the windows have mosquito screens.

Dining area. The contemporary French dining table in the dining area seats up to six people. Plenty of crockery, glasses and cutlery are provided. Highchairs and booster seats are available for younger guests, along with their very own plates, bowls and cutlery.

Kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with  a 5-burner gas hob, an eye-level electric oven with a spit roaster, an eye-level microwave/combination oven, a built-in dishwasher, a large fridge-freezer, a range of small appliances, a set of saucepans, Pyrex oven dishes and matching glasses, cutlery and crockery.

Double bedroom. The double bedroom is furnished with a double bed, a wardrobe, bedside tables with lights and a mosquito screen on the window. A ceiling fan keeps the room cool in the summer months - and blankets and heaters are provided for the cooler months. This bedroom has an ensuite shower room with an enclosed shower cubicle, a WC, a well-lit vanity unit and a built-in hairdryer with shaver point. All taps have thermostatic controls for setting the water temperature.

Twin bedroom. The twin bedroom has two full-size single beds, a wardrobe, bedside tables with lights and a mosquito screen on the window. There is also ample room for a cot or an extra child’s bed. A ceiling fan keeps the room cool in the summer months - and blankets and heaters are provided for the cooler months.

Bathroom. Felicia’s family bathroom has a large bath with an over-bath shower, a WC, a well-lit vanity unit, a heated towel rail and a built-in hairdryer with shaver point. All taps have thermostatic controls for setting the water temperature.

Kitchen linen is provided, along with an initial supply of cleaning materials and dishwasher tablets.  Bed linen is supplied and changed every week. Towels and bath mats are supplied for the bathroom and shower room and changed every week.

Outside.

The Gardens and Grounds

Four terraces of gardens and grounds surround La Longère Rose.

The swimming pool and a boules piste are on the top terrace. The main house, cottages and a lively clutch of chickens are on the second terrace. Below that are the orchard and wildflower meadow on the third terrace. The playing field and marshland are on the bottom terrace.

La Longère Rose’s south-facing, 11.5m x 4.5m, swimming pool gently slopes from 0.8 metres to 2 metres
The water purification is a saltwater system.

There is also an anti-plunge pool alarm, which fully complies with French safety regulations.
Parents are asked to supervise their children in and around the pool at all times.
There is a paddling pool available for younger children

Games room

Located in a hanger adjacent to La Longère Rose, the games room is equipped with a full-size pool table, a table-tennis table and a table football game. It is also ideal for storing bicycles and motorbikes. In the corner of the games room is the laundry room with a tumble dryer and a water treatment plant, which supplies the whole property with soft, filtered water.

In the grounds, you will find a boules piste, a badminton set and space to play football with a goal. Bicycles are also available for guests to borrow. Older children are welcome to play badminton, cricket and football on the bottom field.

Outdoor toys are available in the tots’ play area - an enclosed lawn with a lockable gate. Indoor toys are also available to borrow.

Local area

The village centre of Paizay-le-Tort is a short walk away where there is a skate park, a tennis court, a football pitch and a playground.

Nestling in the valley of the River Berlande, the best way to explore the ancient village of Paizay-le-Tort and the beautiful surrounding countryside is on foot or by bike - borrowed from La Longère Rose or hired locally. There are many marked footpath and cycle routes to explore, some passing right by the end of the lane.

La Longère Rose is surrounded by quiet roads and tracks, which are ideal for walkers and cyclists.

Or if you're feeling more adventurous, other local sporting activities include sailing, canoeing, horse riding and karting.

The nearest shops are in Brioux or Melle, both about 5km away.

There are local markets in the area most days.

Fishing, secluded picnic spots, local markets and a good choice of restaurants are all a short distance away.

Further afield you'll find châteaux, zoos, the Atlantic beaches, theme parks, fishing, water sports and riding centres.

Cycling. The flat, open roads and lanes make this area perfect for cyclists of all ages and all abilities. We have five bicycles available for our guests to use or we can arrange bike hire for more serious cyclists. There are several marked cycle routes in the area around Paizay-le-Tort.

Fishing. The River Berlande, our local river, is restocked with trout each year, so a day spent fishing should provide you with a tasty lunch or supper.

Our local village, Paizay-le-Tort, has playing fields which have tennis courts, a playground for younger children and a skate park for older children.

Mouton Village. Mouton Village is an attraction devoted to sheep. here are 23 different breeds of sheep grazing in six hectares of woodland. Mouton Village also has a shop, a playground, restaurants and picnic areas.

La Vallée des Singes. Discover over 350 primates and thirty different species living in natural surroundings. La Vallée des Singes also has a children’s farm, an adventure play area and snack bars.

Futuroscope, the exciting theme park based on multimedia, cinema and audio-visual techniques is a one hour drive away.

Puy du Fou, an all-action historical theme park and France’s 4th most popular tourist attraction, is around two hours away.

A choice of water sports are available at "Lac du Lambon", which is a 30-minutes drive away from La Longère Rose, or you can hire canoes and kayaks in St-Jean-d’Angély.

Melle has a lively market every Friday and the silver mines, that were discovered by the Romans and mined from the 6th to the 10th century, are open to the public.

Other local towns include; Celle-sur-Belle, Brioux-sur-Boutonne, Chef-Boutonne and Aulnay-de-Saintonge.

La Rochelle, with its iconic ancient battlements, has a traditional fishing port, a superb aquarium, a modern marina and many delightful boutique-style shops and restaurants.

Châtelaillon-Plage with acres of sandy beaches.

Ile-de-Ré, just 30km long and 5km wide, is the cyclist’s kingdom with many cycle routes and little villages which are closed to traffic, as well as delightful boutiques to browse in on foot.
