Holiday cottage in Normandy near Bagnoles-de-L’Orne


	A 1750s stone-built cottage situated in La Serriere, a hamlet lying in a cul-de-sac which has no passing traffic. The hamlet is surrounded by fields and woods in ‘bocage country’ and is about one mile from the village of La Sauvagere, which is 5 miles from the spa town of Bagnoles-de-l’Orne.

Accommodation:

The cottage is attractively furnished with traditional furniture. It has terracotta tiles downstairs and exposed floorboards upstairs. Many of the beams are low and need to be ducked under!

Living Room - with wood burning stove, TV/video, DVD player and CD player.

Dining Room.

Kitchen - equipped with gas hob, combination microwave/oven/grill, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine.

Mezzanine.

Double Bedroom.

Triple Bedroom.

Bathroom.

The mezzanine and two bedrooms are reached by attractive wooden stairs leading from the lounge.

Constant hot water from the ‘chauffe-eau’ (immersion), oil-fired central heating and wood-burning stove.

Mountain bikes for two adults and one child are available. Also golf clubs.

A fully enclosed garden surrounded by a hedge, which gets the sun all day long.
Garden furniture, barbecue and hammock available.

Local area

The gite lies in the Normandy Maine Regional Park and is notable for its forests and Bocage countryside - small fields, woods, hedgerows and orchards.

Less than three miles from the house is the enormous Foret d’Andaines which stretches for over 10 miles and is full of wildlife including red squirrels and red deer.

There are miles of walks and forest tracks - ideal for cycling.

The nearby Orne and Mayenne rivers provide plenty of fishing and canoeing.

La Sauvagère - is the nearest village with a boulangerie, bar tabac, café/restaurant, post office, butcher and tennis courts.

La Ferté-Macé - 5km - is the main local town with a wide range of shops and hypermarket. The town has a leisure complex at the nearby lake with beaches, sailing and pedalos, fishing, golf and walks.

Briouze - 8km - is a small typical Norman town with a reasonable range of shops, a lively market on Mondays and a mainline rail service to Paris.

Bagnoles-de-l’Orne - 8km - the main tourist town town with excellent sport facilities including heated lido, indoor and outdoor tennis courts and a nine hole golf course.

Domfront - 20km - medieval town perched on a rock outcrop.
