The Gardens

The grounds which extend to just over two and a quarter acres are delightful.

There is a small wildlife lake and a stream flowing through the gardens, this is crossed by a bridge to reach the Manoir. This beautiful oasis is blessed with a number of specimen trees which cast delightful shade during the hot days of summer.

Comfortable garden furniture is available to enable you to relax at the end of an exciting day exploring this wonderful region of France.

From June to September afternoon tea is served on the lawn between 3pm and 5pm. If you would like a little gentle exercise there is a croquet lawn or perhaps you would prefer a game of boules.

Of course, there is the swimming pool. The abri or pool cover was installed to meet the new French laws on safety but it has created a wonderful facility which our guests are finding delightful.

For those who are really energetic there are bicycles for hire (bring your own helmet).

Regretfully, for safety reasons, because of the stream and lake, we are unable to accommodate children under 6.

As a rule we do not provide evening meals, but on the day of arrival we are able to provide a simple three course supper to include house wine. To assist with catering this must be booked in advance. The price is 20 euros per person.

There are numerous excellent restaurants in the area and we are happy to recommend our favourites.

During the season we will light the barbecue twice a week. You are welcome to join in the candle lit evening, 20 euros per person (children aged 13 and under 12 euros per child) to include house wine. Book your place at breakfast.

The Area

The area known as the Quercy is within the Midi-Pyrénées region and includes the department of the Lot. The main rivers are the Dordogne, the Célé and the Lot.

The region is spectacularly beautiful with its numerous rivers, forests, limestone cliffs, caves, and plateaux. Its rich history encompasses such milestones as prehistoric man, the Hundred Years War, and the Second World War during which it was a centre of Resistance. Many remnants of these historic periods remain and are well-preserved, including prehistoric cave drawings, huge castles, and medieval walled bastions. Other highlights of the region include many attractive towns with their sidewalk cafés, sophisticated shops, and ancient quarters; the weekly markets; the small farms dotted with sheep and geese; and the rich variety of the cuisine.

There is a wide range of activities available locally such as canoeing, hiking, cycling, swimming, fishing, potholing, golf and tennis. The country roads lend themselves to a quiet stroll or a bicycle ride, and one can hike along the Grande Randonne (France’s Appalachian Trail) or canoe on the Dordogne. The Institut Geographique National publishes very detailed walking maps for each region which can be bought in local book stores.
The area is one of the gastronomic centres in France, specialising in foie gras, confit de canard, goats cheese, truffles, walnuts, and Cahors wine. There are many excellent restaurants which measure up to Paris standards but charge much more reasonable prices.
