Borde Basse is ideal for a relaxing holiday with friends or family, a real escape from the noise, crowds and pressure of 21st century life. It provides an opportunity to experience traditional French
country life and to explore the many unspoilt medieval villages, chateaux and Romanesque churches of Gascony.
It is an exceptional 18th/19th century farmstead which blends organically into its wooded setting. The barns and stables were converted in 2001 into a bright and spacious 6 bed-roomed home, which will sleep 15 guests comfortably
(20 with the extra suite of two bedrooms and a bathroom).
The house has a 10m x 5m swimming pool and a large fully fenced pond with rustic terrace, set in nearly 2 acres of shady wooded gardens. There are extensive views over the surrounding countryside and the setting is tranquil and
secluded, being nearly a kilometre from the nearest through road. The outdoor facilities include 8 bicycles (4 for adults and 4 for children from 2 - 12), a table tennis table, a barbecue, badminton and petanque sets and plenty
of sun-loungers and garden chairs. It is particularly well equipped for children with garden swings, two cots, two high chairs, stair gates and books, games and toys. The swimming pool is security fenced and gated.
The house is very open, light and spacious, with high ceilings and white painted walls. The front door opens on the 60m2 north west terrace which has a large covered area with rattan chairs and sofa for drinks at sundown and a dining table with 14 chairs. the terrace extends over a further paved area to the swimming pool. There is large kitchen dining area with a dining table which will seat 14. It is fully equipped with a 4 burner gas hob, a fitted electric oven, a dishwasher, a microwave, a washing machine and a large fridge freezer. There is all the necessary crockery, glassware, cutlery and cooking utensils for a party of up to 20.
The lounge which is linked to the dining area by two large archways has comfortable seating for up to 15 people. It is equipped with a large flat screen TV (satellite tuners for UK and French channels), a DVD player, and a CD
and tape player.
There are three bedrooms downstairs, a double with an en-suite shower room, a bedroom with three single beds and another double bedroom. The last two share a large bathroom with a walk-in shower and a large tiled Japanese style
bath. There are three further bedrooms on the first floor. A triple bedded room, a double bedroom with an extra single bed and another double bedroom. These three bedrooms share a bathroom. There is also an extra suite of 2
bedrooms and a further bathroom available on the first floor for larger parties, at extra cost.
Your hosts, Kate & Mike, live in the old farm next door and are available to advise on places to go and what to see and do. They have been living in the area for more than 20 years and know the region, its culture and its
history. The property is also available as a residential centre for courses. Airport or railway meeting services, car rental, hotel and restaurant reservations can be arranged. Linen and cleaning at the end of the stay are
included in the rental.
