Spacious lounge with two sofas, TV (UK & French) and for the cooler months there is a wood burning stove for your comfort.

There is a good supply of books and DVDs as well as an excellent selection of board games and music CDs for your use.

The kitchen/diner is well equipped with fridge/freezer,  4-ring hob, table-top oven and microwave. The table comfortably seats six.

The large, light and airy master bedroom has a king-size bed and plenty of hanging and drawer space. There is an en-suite bathroom with shower over bath plus a separate WC. A hairdryer is provided. The room also has its own access to the courtyard below.

The second bedroom with its beamed ceiling and tiled floor has a double bed, drawer and hanging space. An additional single folding bed can be used if required.

There is a second toilet and shower-room.

The gite is equipped with a washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, coffee maker, iron/ironing board, coolbox and bag.

There is free internet wi-fi connection and use of a computer plus free phone calls to the UK, Ireland, USA, Australia and Canada.

Outside

The gite has a large enclosed courtyard which is ideal for soaking up the Loire Valley sunshine and for alfresco dining.

Your car can be parked in the courtyard for unloading and garaged in our large barn if desired - although there is also a safe carpark minutes away from the house.

Local area and activities

The village of Barrou, in the department of Indre-et-Loire, sits by the river Creuse between Descartes and Yzeures-sur-Creuseabout.

The village’s location halfway between the regional capitals of Tours and Poitiers makes it an ideal base to explore the Loire Valley and Vienne.

Barrou itself has a restaurant/bar, baker, butcher, grocer and post office all within walking distance. There are many pleasant walks around the village and along the river.

The neighbouring village of Lesigny (2km) offers safe river swimming as well as a picnic area.

Le Grand Pressigny (8 minutes) has a a pharmacy, doctor, butcher, baker, grocer, bookshop, flower shop, hairdresser and hardware store. There is a choice of restaurants with different set price menus all of which are very good value for money.

Le Grand Pressigny also has a heated Municipal swimming pool on the outskirts of the village with a standard pool plus paddling pools for younger swimmers. It is open from the end of June to the end of August .

La Roche-Posay, 10km from Barrou, has a casino, a thermal spa, a racecourse and nearby is an 18-hole golf course.

Descartes, 15 minutes from Barrou, is set on the river Creuse, the town was home to the famous philosopher René Descartes and there is museum dedicated to him in the house where he was born.
Descartes offers a heated outdoor swimming pool complex with slides, baby pool, 25 metre pool and large sunbathing area, cafeteria, children's play park, crazy golf, fishing, canoeing on the river Cruise, tennis and a beautiful walk through the shaded riverside gardens

Chatellerault, 21km south west of Barrou, is the nearest large town with indoor swimming and indoor ice skating rink.

Within 45 minutes of the gite are the beautiful sandy beaches of the St.Cyr Leisure Parc and Bellebouche within La Brenne Natural Parc. The Parc is an ideal area for walking and bird-watching.

Poitiers with an international airport and Futuroscope is only 50 minutes away.

Paris is just over 3 hours away.
 

Golf - the three closest golf courses are Golf du Connétable (18 holes) at La Roche-Posay, Golf Loches - Verneuil (9 holes) at Loches and Golf du Haut-Poitou (18 holes) at Saint Cyr.

Fishing - from the gite you can walk across the road to the banks of the river Creuse which is said to contain over 20 species of fish.

La Brenne Natural Parc nearby offers river fishing as well as classic lake fishing. The rivers in the Parc are well stocked, with fishing possible on the Creuse, Anglin and Claise as well as some of their tributaries.

An extra child can be accommodated on folding bed if required - additional 15 euros/night.

Bed linen and towels are provided.

Minimum stay - 7 nights.

We do not ask for a security deposit as we act on the basis that our guests are honest and trustworthy.
