The area
The Languedoc is one of the most varied areas of France, towering mountains, deep gorges, forests and the Mediterranean Sea which is one hour away help make this an all year round tourist attraction.
Carcassonne is surrounded by beautiful fields of vines and sunflowers. The gite of Le Moulin is ideally situated and makes a superb holiday base to explore the many historical sites. It is the land of the Cathars and the
Knights Templar. Apart from the medieval Castle of Carcassonne (as featured in ‘Robin Hood Prince of Thieves’) you can try to unravel the mysteries of Rennes-le-Chateau, visit ancient sites, chateaux and Cathar castles.
Explore ancient caves with subterranean rivers. Swim in the nearby lake and the thermal spas of Alet-les-Bains and Rennes-les-Bains.
In addition to sampling the original French Champagne (Blanquette) which is made locally in Limoux, you can visit the fine wine areas of Corbieres, Fitou and Minervois.
Explore the market towns of Bram, Castlenaudry, Mirepoix, Revel and of course Carcassonne. Take a boat trip on the Canal du Midi from Carcassonne or watch a spectacular eagle display at the local sanctuary. Go white water
rafting, body boarding, walking in the Montagne Noire (Black Mountains) and Pyrenees.
Why not take a day trip to Spain or duty free Andorra.
