Local area
There is a great deal to do and see in the area including vineyards, spectacular scenery, excellent beaches, historic buildings and cathedrals, museums and great places to eat out.
The delightful old village of Fitou is on the edge of the Corbiere region. It is a 10 minute drive from the beaches of the Mediterranean. The village is famous for the red wine and has many tasting
stations. It also offers excellent restaurants and a supermarket.
Close by are the towns of Perpignan (20 minutes), the medieval walled town of Carcassonne (1 hour) and the historic town of Narbonne (30 minutes).
There are glorious sandy beaches to be found at Leucate Plage and La Franqui which stretch as far as the eye can see.
Perpignan is the capital of Roussillon and the most multinational city in South West France. The old quarter is a pedestrianised area, famous for the red marbled pavements. Shops of all descriptions
combine with classy restaurants to create an excellent atmosphere. A cathedral and outdoor market add to the features of the sizeable city.
Languedoc is home to one of Frances most famous inland waterways, the Canal du Midi, which leads from Toulouse to Sete passing Carcassonne and Bezier en route.
Boat hire is available at Homps and is one of the starting places for 2 hour boat trips along the canal.
Bicycle hire is available in Homps and the nearby small town of Olonzac.
Walking is popular in the area around Fitou. There are two walks (Blue and Yellow) from Fitou village itself.
The hills of the Corbieres will satisfy all biking enthusiasts, 3 circuits run through and around Fitou, allowing bikers of any level to enjoy the area.
Girona is an hour away and Toulouse and Barcelona are two hours away.
