The region of Franche Comte is one of the furthest from the French coastlines. It stretches along the Franco-Swiss border and has a mountainous landscape of breathtaking valleys, rivers, underground caverns, forests and over 80 lakes. The area attracts hikers, skiers, rock climbers and cyclists, and people who enjoy pure, fresh air and wonderful food. The products of this region are varied; crystal glassware, pipe-making, clocks, cheeses, salted meats, fine wines and snails.

Places of interest

Besancon(Jura) - capital of Franche Comte. A hilly town of historical and artistic interest and clock-making centre. The Museum Comtois exhibiting rural culture and traditions is housed in the Citadel here.
Dole(Jura) - built on the banks of the River Doubs, it has a medieval town centre. The 16th century church is the largest in Franche Comte.
Arbois(Jura) - wine capital of the Jura. Famous for its fine wines (the vin jaune and vin de paille) and annual wine festivals. Medieval Chateau which houses the museum of viticulture.
Lons-le-Saunier(Jura) - ancient Roman spa city with therapeutic salt waters. Situated in the heart of the Jura vineyards.
