The local area St Feliu d’Avall lies in the valley of the river Têt some 10 miles west of Perpignan and next to the main east-west road, the N116. This gives excellent access to the Mediterranean beaches, marinas and resorts as well as the ski resorts of the high Pyrenees and Andorra. Just to the east is the main north-south motorway linking France and Spain. This places Spain and many visitor sites within easy reach. All the village facilities (shops, bar/restaurant, post office, pharmacy) are within easy walking distance. An excellent small corner shop is just 2 doors away. The nearest large supermarket is a 10 minute drive in the town of Thuir, which also has excellent restaurants and shopping. Perpignan airport is 20 minutes away, Girona 1½ hours, Carcassonne and Barcelona airports are an easy 2 hours on the motorway. |

There is a wide range of activities all within easy reach; swimming, windsurfing, kayaking, climbing, hiking, canyoning, cycling and mountain biking, tennis, golf, horse riding and trekking. There is an excellent public swimming pool 10 minutes away at Thuir. Perpignan offers both a bustling modern city and an ancient quarter with traditional markets and historic sites such as the palace of the Kings of Mallorca. On the coast are the beach resorts with lively marinas and cafés, and the vineyard-circled Collioure, an enchanting fortified village that continues to attract artists through the quality of the light. Further afield are the fascinating Cathar castles of Queribus, Peyreperteuse and Pullarens and the perilously perched Abbey de Saint Martin. The “Little Yellow Train” offers a unique excursion into the mountains to the west. There are beautiful cave and river gorge systems to explore as well as vast expanses of hills, valleys, mountains, rivers and lakes. |
