The Morvan is an area of natural beauty in Burgundy, which, because of its mild climate is an attraction in all seasons. This hilly countryside with many forests and meadows, separated by lovely winding country roads is an ideal place for those seeking peace and tranquility, for nature lovers and hikers but also for those keen on mountain biking, cycling and fishing.
In the village of Ouroux there is a fantastic fishing lake.
Towns worth a visit include; Dijon the capital of the Burgundy, Beaune with the 'Hospice de Beaune', Vézelay the place of pilgrimage with a magnificent basilica, Avallon old town and Autun an old roman town.
A visit to Guédelon, is absolutely a must. Guédelon Castle is a medieval construction project using only the techniques and materials used in the Middle Ages. When completed in the 2020s, it should be an authentic recreation of a 13th century medieval castle.
There are a number of other castles in the nearby vicinity, such as the castle of Chastellux or that of Bazoches, which are open to the public during the season.
For water sports enthusiasts there are two large lakes locally - the “Lac de Pannecière” and the “Lac des Settons”.
Rafting is available on the river Cure.
A visit to the waterfalls of Gouloux is a joy for all of the family.
The Canal du Nivernais, to the west of Ouroux en Morvan, links the Loire basin with the Seine basin following approximately the course of the river Yonne in a south to north direction. Beginning in the village of Saint-Léger-des-Vignes, the canal traverses the department of the Nièvre.
The village St. Brisson is the very centre of the Morvan. In this beautiful large parc you will find many quite surprising walking trails.
Burgundy is famous as a gastronomical and vinicultural region. A visit to Chablis will not disappoint you. There are various places to visit where you can taste and buy wine. Of course you can also taste and buy wine at the Cave Barbotte in our village.
