Local area The cottages are situated in Mellé in the Ille-et-Vilaine department of Brittany, close to the Normandy and Pays de la Loire borders. Just down the lane there is an 18 km Patrimoine walk through lovely countryside. There is a water park 15 minutes away. River and lake fishing is available nearby. Bikes can be hired locally and delivered direct to your cottage. Brittany has the longest coastline in France and so there are miles of unspoilt sandy beaches. St Malo - 75km - an old port with a walled town full of seafood restaurants, souvenir shops and pedestrian ramparts that offer fantastic views of the port and the miles of sandy beaches. Cancale - 66km - a small picturesque fishing town, famous for its oysters and seafood, plus there are some wonderful walks along rugged coastal paths. Mont St Michel - 33km - a magnificent abbey perched on an island joined to the mainland by a causeway. The abbey stands above a village, which is full of shops and restaurants. It is especially spectacular at night. Rennes - 70km - the capital of Brittany. The beautiful 17th century Palais de Justice and medieval Place des Lices (Jousters Square) are well worth a visit for the half-timbered buildings. Dinan - 77km - a medieval stronghold overlooking the exceptional Vallée de la Rance. Dinan is undeniably one of the most exquisite cities of Brittany. Still entirely surrounded by its ramparts, it has belfries, churches, convents, timbered houses and narrow streets disclosing their secrets as you go along. Fougeres - 18km - overlooking vast green countryside, Fougeres has retained all of the grandeur of its glorious past. Fougeres old town still contains wooden buildings and a host of shops and restaurants. |
