Central hallway with all the living accommodation on the ground floor. The kitchen area is equipped with a built-in gas hob, an electric oven, grill & rotisserie, microwave, fridge-freezer, toaster, kettle, griddle, cafetiere, teapot, salad spinner, vegetable mouli, casseroles and a full complement of pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and glassware. The dining area has table and chairs, comfortable armchair and a storage unit where the collection of local maps and information is stored. Below the cottage is a separately accessed storage room where cycles, golf clubs, walking boots and so on may safely be kept. A dedicated laundry area for guests is also housed here and there is a rotary dryer to one side of the garden. Across the hall is the light and airy sitting room which has a comfortable suite, tables, well-stocked bookcase, a selection of board games and CDs, a DVD player and TV receiving UK free-to-air programmes. The efficient wood burning stove has a top-box for warming plates or mulling wine. There are two relaxing bedrooms beyond the living rooms. The double bedroom faces west and has lovely views across to the distant forest, where the sunsets are magnificent. The twin bedroom opposite benefits from the morning sun rising over neighbouring fields. Both rooms have chestnut parquet flooring, working shutters and modern, efficient panel radiators. An optional travel cot is available, which fits either bedroom. The large shower room at the end of the hall has a chair, storage tower and heated towel rail. |

Surrounding the cottage to the south and west, the enclosed mature garden benefits from the sun throughout the day and on into summer evenings. There is a built-in stone barbecue and hardwood table with chairs and parasol in a sheltered outdoor dining space that is ringed by herbs and flowering shrubs. Parking for several cars is available just opposite. The ancient longere is entered through a traditional Breton arched doorway which opens into a spacious double height hall with a small galleried landing. Open plan kitchen with a sunny window seat. The kitchen is comprehensively equipped for catering for up to six guests throughout the year - from salad spinner to chicken roaster. An under-stair laundry area houses the washing machine, iron and ironing board. Living room which has a large window set into the front wall and the other end of the room has French doors leading directly out onto the barbecue terrace and a wonderful view over the river valley. At the rear of the longere there is an attractive ground floor double bedroom with more French doors out to the rear terrace, and an adjacent shower room. Upstairs there is a double bedroom and a spacious twin bedroom both with ensuite shower rooms. Modern efficient panel radiators are fitted in all bedrooms and convector heaters in the shower rooms. |

On the rear terrace is a built-in barbecue with large table, chairs and parasol creating an outdoor dining space. Beyond the redcurrant bushes, edging the terrace, is our open grassed paddock bordered by oak, apple and hazel trees. Sit and watch the amazing variety of birds and butterflies that share this beautiful peaceful area, or star gaze on clear evenings. |

Local area Plessala has a small supermarket, bank, post office, bakers, butchers, bar, tabac, an excellent crêperie and a market on Thursday mornings. The mayor’s office issues fishing permits for the trout lake in the park. Stroll beside the nearby River Lié, dangle a rod into it or take a kayak down it. The former railway line can be accessed nearby and forms part of a network of good local cycle/foot paths. Just a short drive away are several other small towns with a range of good restaurants for both lunch and dinner, as well as assorted other attractions. Le Site de la Roche au Cerf is an ancient stepping stone river crossing in the valley directly below La Fontaine Rouillée, where the shallow waters are ideal for cooling off in hot weather and lovely to sit beside with a picnic. Le Vaublanc - 2km - is the site of an old forge, now occupied by a religious community who bake up to ten varieties of delicious bread the traditional way and are pleased to show their wood fuelled ovens to passers-by stopping for a chat and to buy a loaf. Moncontour - 10km - is the perfect place to visit. Designated a Breton 'Petite Cité de Caractère' it perches on a hillside and contains within its centuries old walls fascinating higgledy-piggledy streets and buildings with unbelievably low doorways. At La Cheze - 20km - there is a very large fishing lake alongside the river and in the summer months an open air swimming pool. Loudeac - 23km - has an excellent indoor swimming pool complex with chutes, jacuzzi and sauna. Forty minutes north from the cottages is Pleneuf Val-Andre’s stunning long sandy beach which is overlooked by its famous international standard golf course. Dinan (66km) and Josselin (45km) are both wonderfully preserved walled medieval cities with castles, winding streets, individual shops and thriving markets. Pontivy - 43km - a pretty Napoleonic canal-side market town with a chateau. The famous standing stones at Carnac. |

Prices include bed linen, change-over cleaning and utilities. Short breaks available - up to 4 nights @ 70% of weekly rate, 5 nights @ 80%, 6 nights @ 90%. Additional nights - up to 14 nights pro-rata weekly rates, then rising discounts apply for longer lets. Optional extras - travel cot, highchair and stairgate £20 per booking, bathroom towels £10 per person. Terms - £150 / € 150 deposit per week, balance due 6 weeks prior to arrival.
