The mobile home is newly renovated and tastefully furnished. It is one of only three in this part of the campsite and separated from the others by 20 metres of woodland on each side.

The site

Our private, English-owned mobile home is parked on a small municipal campsite beside a mature, spring-fed lake, one of the most beautiful in the Dordogne. The lake boasts two clean, sandy, bathing beaches.

The mobile home is within 10 metres of the lake shore (separated by the campsite boundary fence) with views from the windows of lily pads and wildlife - red squirrels in the trees just outside, moorhens, mallards and water-voles.

A short walk away are two sandy, pine-shaded beaches where bathing is perfect for toddlers and adults alike.

There are picnic tables beneath the trees and both beaches have children’s play areas. In high season there is supervised bathing.

Swimming lessons are available and there is a water chute, free to those camping. Water quality is regularly checked to government standards.

Pedalos are available for hire, but otherwise there is a ‘no noise, no pollution’ policy and motorised boats/sports are not allowed.

The lake has a high reputation for the quality of its fishing including trout, carp etc.
The cost of the permit is included in the rental price. Three rods are allowed per person.

At the far end of the lake is a relaxed bar/restaurant, La Guinguette, with a great atmosphere and live music twice a week. (Don’t worry, it’s far enough away for the sound not to trouble you on the campsite!) Here one can find veggie and vegan food if desired… normally impossible to find in rural France.

Altogether, an ideal spot for nature lovers, swimmers, fishermen and kids!

Local area and activities

The campsite shop has basic provisions, but the small market town of Vergt, with all shops, restaurants and medical facilities, is only 5 minutes away by car.

Friday morning there is a bustling market where you can buy fresh produce, taste local cheeses or treat yourself to something from a colourful north-African stall.

Vergt is the centre of an authentic French rural community. The summer months see regular traditional festivals, such the Strawberry Fête (Vergt is the centre of French strawberry cultivation), where all the local villages contribute to producing the biggest – and tastiest – strawberry tart you’ve ever seen!

The site is 20 minutes from Périgueux and 35 minutes from Bergerac (Bergerac airport has regular, low cost flights from UK airports).

When you’re bored with swimming, sunbathing, or propping up the bar, there are plenty of other things to do!

• Walking……The French are great randonneurs (walkers) and there are well-marked and maintained country walks everywhere.

• Cycling……Cycles are available for hire from the campsite.

• Riding…… There are stables close by for both lessons and hacking.

• Canoeing……The superb Vézère, Dordogne and Isle rivers and their valleys are wonderful to explore by canoe. Rent one for a short descent, or take a picnic and make a day of it.

• Sightseeing……You can visit the beautiful Vézère and Dordogne valleys with their troglodyte caves and cave paintings (including world famous Lascaux) and their numerous castles, chateaux and bastide towns.

• Eating-out……Eat inexpensively and gastronomically at a wide variety of restaurants.

• Wine-tasting……Taste and buy wines in the Bergerac vineyards.
